After purchasing this fixer upper, we need to prioritize so we could focus on what was most important. On top of our priority list, was the pruning this beautiful oak tree which was also home to 3 barred owls.
Home owners insurance typically requires that trees be a certain distance from the top and sides of your home. In this particular case, tree pruning was definitely in order. We hired the "man lift" aka cherry picker. (Disclaimer: although tree trimming can usually be done by the average home owner, tree pruning requires a professional which we strongly recommend)
There are many reasons why a tree pruning would be necessary. Aesthetics, safety and health of the tree are 3 main reasons we recommend doing so. We knew that this oak tree was also home to 3 barred owls, which are a federally protected species under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Therefore, we had to be very sensitive of their habitat and did not want to disturb any nests they may have had in this particular oak tree. Once we determined that there were no nests in the tree, we carefully planned which limbs to remove.
